Freddy's altitude training for Mt Kilimanjaro
Freddy's story
My name's Andy Scott. I'm Chef Artist at Q2D and mother of Freddy Scott. Freddy was born with VSD which means a hole in his heart. He had multiple operations at Great Ormond Street Hospital and we weren’t sure he would survive, but thanks to their incredible treatment my little baby grew into a fine young man.
Freddy’s not only a survivor, he’s also unique as he has learning challenges. We don’t fit the perfect family photo as each day is full of obstacles; But we work together well as a team in finding solutions to everything along our way.
So we thought…why not add another challenge to our lives.
Let’s climb as a family up Mount Kilimanjaro and give back to the hospital that made the impossible, possible. Let’s raise funds for the Great Ormond Street Hospital Charity and ask people to sponsor us so that we can help others like Freddy.
So on July 1st 2018, Freddy Scott will attempt to climb the highest mountain in Africa. Mount Kilimanjaro!
Freddy has always loved hiking and sports and his doctor said he could « got for it ».
The money collected for charity will go towards helping families like us deal with their lifelong physical and learning challenges in the outside world.
I always say to Freddy that « difficult roads often lead to beautiful destinations". When I asked him if he wanted to give Mount Kilimanjaro a go he answered with the sweetest of smiles "yes, because I want to reach the top of the world!"
